Let freedom reign. The sun never set on so glorious a human achievement. - Nelson Mandela
14th of July is the day of the national French celebration. Established in 1880, this date commemorates both the storming of the Bastille on the 14th July 1789, which ended absolute rule of monarchy, and the Festival of the Federation of the 14th July 1790.
The students of DPS GBN celebrated the French National Day on the virtual platform with euphoric participation in various culture enriching activities.
A raft of exceptional events like video presentation on historical importance of this day, impressive rhymes and spectacular songs made this anniversary stellar in DPS GBN.
It was followed by myriad of performances by our students amongst which were our talented tenth graders; Saatvik Negi, Sagnik Basu, Sahar Khan, Nysa Jha, who gave a video presentation on the historical importance of this special day. On the other hand, Lavanya Jain withheld the moment when she played the melodious song “La vie en rose” by Edith Piaf on the musical instrument “ukulele”.
It was mesmerizing to listen to Iona Nagvanshi, student of ninth grade, singing the song “Beaucoup” by “Lolo Zouai” and Juwariyah Faisal, talented sixth grader singing “Dernière Danse” by “Titred’Indila”. Both the students enthralled everyone with their euphonious singing. Their songs have been much appreciated for their melody and rhythm.
There was an enchanting performance on an enthralling rhyme which was presented by our fifth grader, Ahaana Moudgil .
There were various activities conducted across different grades which included poster/collage making, role play of a French personality/city, poem recitation, songs and monologues on various themes pertaining to the French culture. This celebration was marked with increase in interest amongst the learners in French language and culture.
The activities brought out the student’s creative side as well as their eagerness to learn more about life in France and to distinguish the difference in cultures of India and France. The celebration highlighted the need to appreciate the culture and build solidarity among people of India as well as France.
