DPS, GBN Organises 1st Indo-French Student Exchange Programme

28 students and 4 teachers from Collège Félix Eboué, Fessenheim, Alsace, France visited DPS GBN under a student exchange programme from March 31- April 14, 2019. It was a unique opportunity for them to observe Indian culture closely as these twenty-eight students were placed with Indian host families. They learned about our language, cuisine, lifestyle, education and many other aspects of Indian traditions. DPS, GBN students had prepared a special welcome assembly for their French counterparts which included Ganesh Vandana, presentations on Bollywood Songs, etc.

Apart from attending classes during the day, french students participated in various activities to understand Indian Culture like non fire cooking wherein they made “Coconut Ladoos and “Bhelpuri”, art activities like “T-Shirt Painting” and “Folder Making”. The French Group also actively participated in various sports activities wherein students from both the countries played together to demonstrate the spirit of “Brotherhood”. The French Students and teachers also practiced “Yoga” and “Meditation”.

The French students were also taught to dance on a peppy Punjabi number which was showcased on April 12, during the Farewell Ceremony. The French Teachers attended the “Hindi Classes” and “Music Classes”. They presented a small role play and also sang old Bollywood Songs. Indian students too presented a myriad of performances on the occasion. The ceremony was really mesmerising and applauded by one and all. The French Group visited Mathura, Agra and Jaipur wherein they were enthralled by the rich Indian heritage as they visited temples in Mathura, Taj Mahal, Agra Fort, City Palace and Amber Fort. The French and Indian students visited “Bal Sahyog”, a social organisation to provide opportunities to neglected children to evolve into respected and responsible citizens. The students joined the children for lunch, had a glimpse of their routine life. The Bal Sahyog children presented the the French Group and Indian Students with handmade cards as souvenirs.

The weekends were especially enjoyable as the Indian host families took the students along for shopping and other interesting outings. The Indian and French Students participated in group activities like cooking and sports which allowed them to bond well. French teachers Mr. Julien Chérault, Ms. Stéphanie Seiller, Ms.Christine Studer and Mr. Yves Heller expressed their gratitude to Host School for their tremendous support during the entire stay and invited them to France to continue with this bonding and friendship.

The exchange came to end with the host school gifting a photo album containing the beautiful pictures captured during their entire stay in India as a souvenir to all the students and teachers. They parted ways with the promise to meet again.
